The Woods.

My favorite band of all time is Bright Eyes
For countless reasons

Music is such an amazing and beautiful thing
so why don't you go right ahead and inspire yourself by listening
to this.

Having a cozy night in tonight with my a few of my favorite things, Bright Eyes, tea with english honey, watercolors, and my new striped sweater.....with elbow patches.

I have been so inspired by my surroundings lately; the trees, the massive amounts of leaves, the cloudy skies, english architecture, and all the hidden gems of the english countryside.

Working on some simple sprints that will be screen printed onto a range of fabrics to experiment and see how different fabrics change the feel of thee original image.

The below image does not belong to me. It is a print made by a Bright Eyes fan with my favorite Lime Tree Lyrics

Cheers

Simplicity

SIMPLICITY:

The quality or condition of being plain or uncomplicated in form or design

Monday

A little fashion inspiration for your Monday morning

In the form of the one and only Audrey Hepburn.

A strong woman who understood the beauty in elegance and timeless grace.

Patterns

Today we had a lecture from the head of the visual art department,
Simeon Nelson
titled, "Kosmos"

which is a greek word meaning,
ornament, jewel, world organized system or structure

The lecture focused on patterns in nature and how they are often mirrored in culture.

My favorite part of the lecture was when we talked about the distance between stars and how ordinary things can be seen as extraordinary to others.

James Hillman, The Practice of Beauty

"Suppose we were to imagine that beauty is permanently given, inherent to the world in its data, there on display always, a display that evokes an aesthetic response. This inherent radiance lights up more translucently, more intensively within certain events, particularly those events that aim to seize it and reveal it, such as artworks." "The artist, of course, does indeed reveal the extraordinary in the ordinary. That is the job - not to distinguish and separate the ordinary and the extraordinary, but to view the ordinary with the extraordinary eye of divine enhancement."

I was inspired to write this poem after this lecture:

"Between Stars"

Directly in the center
of infinite space
floating in the distance
between the stars
there is a darkness you never before
new existed
The blackness envelopes your surroundings
almost entirely
But there is a pattern
Even in this construct we call Space
There is a faint glimmer
in the distance
A pattern of stars
Almost a direct replica
of the freckles in your eyes
As the distance melts
and becomes measurable
The light pierces through
the billowing black
The light streaking through
reminds you that this design
is not elusive to you
The same hands that formed each star
and the distance between
Shaped the curves of your face
and fills the depths of your heart
Those who try to measure this distance
do not understand
There is no space between you and God.

Adventurers.

What people don't tell you about traveling is that there are countless in between moments that lead up to the "monumental" ones,
the moments that people take pictures of.
It is impossible to capture in a photo all of the candid moments, misadventures, and obstacles in between.
What the photo fails to show you are all of the moments leading up to it.
All of the moments leading up to the "monumental" ones are monuments in there own right to me.
The photo I took of Big Ben for the first time does not show the hail that poured down for five minutes just as we stepped onto the London Bridge for the first time. And it certainly does not show you how beautiful everything surrounding is.
It is so hard to express the amazingness of these cities and adventures because there are endless memories and landscapes being discovered.
I cherish each train ride and missed train just the same.

I love it all.

Even when it's 3am and we're sleeping in a train station because we decided it was a completely normal thing to do.

Memorables from another weekend in London:

Two for one Russian Punch's at the Fiftyfivebar
Seeing In Pixels at The Dublin Castle & dancing more than anyone
Trains, tubes, and coaches as usual
Ordering "nachos"
Blue lights of the London Eye
Big Ben chiming at midnight
Trafalgar Square
The National Gallery
Lions
Sleeping in the Station
& again at Leon's
Laughing too hard
Breakfast & morning tea
Brick Lane Street Art
Vintage Shopping
Exploring
Getting lost in Hackney
Afternoon tea mission fail
Christmas decorations everywhere
Oxford Street Chaos

This is just two days! A list doesn't do it justice but none the less at least it will help me to remember

From London with Love

Floating in Blue.

Woodkid's "I love you"

"I Love You"
Where the light shivers offshore
Through the tides of oceans
We are shining in the rising sun

As we are floating in the blue
I am softly watching you
Oh boy your eyes betray what burns inside you

Whatever I feel for you
You only seem to care about you
Is there any chance you could see me too?
Cause I love you
Is there anything I could do
Just to get some attention from you?
In the waves I've lost every trace of you
Where are you?

After all I drifted ashore
Through the streams of oceans
Whispers wasted in the sand

As we were dancing in the blue
I was synchronized with you
But now the sound of love is out of tune

Whatever I feel for you
You only seem to care about you
Is there any chance you could see me too?
Cause I love you
Is there anything I could do
Just to get some attention from you?
In the waves I've lost every trace of you
Where are you?

Autumn

"I'll tie strings around all your fingers,
remind you that I'll be home soon
I'll carve our names in every tree in the country
whatever else you want me to do"

Ballerina Dreamin

Just got back from my lecture about applied arts. I am now working on my design portfolio and sketching away.
Also day dreaming about seeing The Nutcracker during Christmas at the London Coliseum.

This is just one of my favorites from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker

Paris, Je 'taime

In less than two weeks I will be...in Paris!

What a dream.

It is funny to think about how in love with this place I am that I have never actually been to. I have been drawn to all things french since I can remember, maybe because I am mainly french and it is just within me. I cannot wait to go to the market and pick out the most perfect baguette & wine. Stroll through the french flea markets, see Monet's water lilies, and of course the Eiffel Tower.

So Blessed!

Something Blue.

A simple sketch/illustration using pen, pencil, & water soluble color pencils.
One of my very dear friends Ariel is getting married this very month! This sketch was inspired by her upcoming wedding and all thee enchantment that is going to take place. I am technically a bridesmaid but I am away in London so will be missing this perfect day. So while I was daydreaming about the autumn wedding this sketch happened.
What is more inspiring than true love?

Goblins & Ghouls. A London Halloween.

A Fashion Majors Halloween.
As a lover of Halloween & any excuse to get creative and creepy we made our own costumes!
Priscilla (Left) was Wednesday from the Adams Family. She wore a simple black collared dress, knee socks, her favorite loaves that she matched with the perfect plum lip and dead set glare.
I bought black leggings and a leotard and painted bones using basic acrylic paint. So cheap, so fun, and totally creeptastic. For my make up I just messed around using white powder, stick & liquid eyeliner for my skeleton mouth and eyes. I paired my skeleton suit with my Jeffrey Cambells and a ghost ship heart. People died when they saw our outfits..... (;
We went to The Alibi a little dive bar/pub in Hackney.
In my opinion,
Divey places with character > massive clubs
They played nineties hip hop & handed out free masquerade masks!
We then headed over to The Ministry of Sound which is in fact a massive club but we all made it fun by going room to room and dancing like a bunch of weirdos.
Another night out in London, loving every second of it.

Fashion Muse

Anna Karina

I first discovered her while watching the 1960s french film, A Woman is a Woman.
When I think of french new wave fashion I think of Anna Karina.

Très Chic.
